COMMUNICATIONS & MESSAGING GROUP

A SOLUTIONS AND CAPABILITY GROUP SPECIALISING IN INTERPRETATION OF DEFENCE REQUIREMENTS, INTEGRATION AND INTEROPERABILITY

FACT SHEET

CMG is a specialist group providing Communications and Messaging solutions and supporting the rapidly moving technological advances in communications and computer based technology within the military messaging arena. Technical expertise in military messaging standards, CESG security policies and multi level and domain based security architectures.

CMG Solutions
The EDS Defence Communications & Messaging Group (CMG) provides coherent and intuitive messaging solutions to military customers. Messaging solutions are designed to meet customer needs, so that they can be embedded as a core part of the C2 infrastructure or used as a dedicated messaging system in both fixed and deployed domains.

CMG solutions offer security and high availability and can be supplied to operate over multiple wide area networks, stand-alone systems or can be embedded in Command Support systems such as the EDS supplied Joint Operational Command System (JOCS) and Royal Navy Command Support System (RNCSS). CMG messaging solutions supplied via the Atlas consortium will provide a key part of messaging infrastructure for DII (F).

CMG Capability
CMG technical staff are leading experts in the analysis and interpretation of defence messaging requirements and as well as providing messaging solutions, the group also has experience of designing, developing and delivering multi-protocol gateways. These gateways provide secure interoperability between different national and organisational domains through the application of messaging standards. Gateways provide conversion of message formats, addresses and security labels between the security domains and these formats can be customised according to national or organisational needs. Security is enforced though EDS own unique and customisable security checks which transfer the messages from one domain to another. EDS have developed a complete ACP 145 Gateway solution which has been supplied to the UK MoD.

Messaging Protocols
Messaging protocols which are currently supported include: ACP145, SMTP/SMIME/ESS, X.400 etc. Addressing standards include: X.500, LDAP v3, LDIF, across disparate addressing schemes.

CMG Technical Expertise
X.400 and X.500 directory standards. Military messaging standards include STANAG 4406, ACP127, JANAP128, ACP145. CESG security policies. Multi level and domain based security architectures.

CMG Customers

  • DEC CCII/DII IPT supply of ACP 145 Gateway and de-risking assessment of ANSON (F);
