PORTFOLIO

JOCS is a modular, static and deployable Joint Command System provided to the UK Ministry of Defence. The programme was initiated in 1995 when EDS were awarded the Pilot-JOCS project. In 1998 we were also awarded the follow-on project to provide full JOCS. The system benefits from a programme of continuous user driven evolution and will be migrated to be hosted on the Defence Information Infrastructure from 2009.

Overview
JOCS is primarily a Joint Warfare Command and Control System and is used by the Permanent Joint Headquarters in the UK. Every major operational command in the UK has a JOCS capability and the system provides a capability both afloat, and at UK overseas bases. In addition the system supports the deployable user and provides Joint Task Force Headquarters (over 200 clients) as well as multiple deployed Component Commanders (including Land to Brigade level). Deployed Liaison Officers can also be provided with secure single clients for reach back. The system also features the unrivalled capability to securely inter-connect and communicate with many other command systems including UK single service systems, NATO, Coalition partners and non-UK systems.

JOCS provides capability through an infrastructure plus a set of core tools and a set of optional tools that are continually developed and upgraded. Environmental tools, Campaign Planning tools and specific Battlefield applications (BISA) are now being integrated as part of the continuing incremental development programme.

JOCS is built on Government and Commercial off-the-shelf proven components and applications.

Information Management - Joint Operations Picture (JOP)
The JOP has been designed and developed by EDS to provide a secure information management tool for Joint Operations. The JOP tools provide access to the business information published, manipulated or viewed within JOCS and other systems. The JOP tools are;

• Secure Intranet (Web) to view published information
• JOP geospatial viewer to manage and visualise recognised Pictures
• JOP Explorer provides familiar Windows explorer functionality to the JOP
• Trusted Publisher to securely publish objects
• Database Extraction tool to extract common information from secure databases
• Picture Manager to create and visualise business related layered pictures
• Structure Tool to create , view and access business process driven related views of published data.

Security
Security of Information is of the utmost importance to the Joint Force Commander and his force. Consequently JOCS is built on a secure information infrastructure and provides role based security access, a secure Web and secure Messaging. This gives the Joint Force Commander the capability to maintain operational security, and allows efficient and secure national and coalition operations to be carried out on the JOCS system concurrently.

Interoperability
JOCS allows secure interoperability to a wide variety of national, coalition and international systems using messaging, email and web interfaces. This capability is evolving to provide a managed interoperability service.
