NITEworks has recently completed its Assessment and Transition Phases. It is currently supporting a number of short-term activities aimed at adapting the NITEworks capacity to broaden its role of delivering demonstrable benefits to enhance network enabled Military Capability

NITEWorks

The Project
NITEworks (Network Integration Test and Experimentation Works) is an experimental environment that allows the UK Ministry of Defence to assess the benefits of Network Enabled Capability (NEC) and the options for its effective and timely delivery.

The Partnership
NITEworks is a partnership between the Ministry of Defence and the defence industry. This unique arrangement allows NITEworks to draw on the widest possible range of specialist skills, information and facilities in addressing problems set by the Ministry of Defence. The NITEworks Stakeholder Organisation is unique and draws from a wide skills base. EDS is a full partner with active involvement in the NITEworks Industry Board.

The EDS role
Provision of Consultancy Expertise
EDS Defence has provided experienced consultants to the NITEworks Core Team and Themes in the following roles:

• Facilities Architects
• Subject Matter Experts

Provision of Facilities & Capabilities
EDS has provided infrastructure and capabilities to enable Visualisations, Pilots and Experiments including:

• The Joint Operations Command System (JOCS)
• Royal Navy Command Support System (RNCSS)
• Army Tactical Computer System
• The STARDIS Toolset
• The ISTAR Testbed (ISOSCELES)

EDS has provided consultancy support and/or facilities support to a number of Themes including:

• ISTAR 1 - Request for Information Management
• ISTAR 2 - Collection coordination of ISTAR information
• Land Tactical Picture 05 (LTP05)
• Cross Theme (X-Theme)
• Joint Intelligence Picture (JIP)
• Medium Weight Capability (MWCap A&B)

Medium Weight Capability Theme
The extremely successful theme, conducted in 2005/6 and lead by EDS, represented an innovative concept development activity in support of DCDC. Against a new position paper, an experiment was developed and conducted which generated significant interest in new command enablers, organisational constructs and use of "chat" across components. The theme reflected the pre-concept thought leadership aspect of NITEworks in a Customers' Friend role.
