In Defence, the Operational Imperative - deliver force effect - remains unchanged: it's simply becoming more complex to meet. During recent conflicts, logistics has been recognised as integral to the Joint Operational Picture. Whilst logistics is about moving forces and material to generate force effect, logistics information increasingly underpins that same output - combining to reconcile two imperatives - effectiveness and efficiency. In the past, Ministries of Defence have typically procured their Logistics IS capabilities over time to meet a very different threat: but now they must transform - through evolution, not revolution. EDS plays the role of Intelligent Supplier, helping drive coherence between business process and IS - delivering logistics information that is a perfect fit for purpose.
